Revolutionize your MES deployments: Opcenter Execution Foundation now with Ansible Playbooks
Say goodbye to slow, manual processes and inconsistencies between environments
With every new version of Opcenter Execution Foundation, Siemens reinforces its commitment to continuously improving its MES/MOM solutions. This time, one of the most relevant updates is the addition of Ansible Playbooks as the official tool for preparing and deploying environments, a key improvement in terms of standardization, reliability and scalability of implementations.
Opcenter Execution Foundation (EX FN) is a solution based on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) that allows custom MES applications to be built through a clear separation between the platform and service consumers. Using environments such as Project Studio, Solution Studio and Mendix Studio Pro, users can define data models, business logic, user interfaces and governance settings in a structured way.
This architecture makes it possible to comprehensively address typical engineering workflows: from building solutions to deploying them in production environments, including functional and operational system configuration.
Ansible Playbooks: a structured approach to installation and configuration
One of the usual barriers to implementing MES solutions is the initial environment setup, which can be complex and prone to inconsistencies. The addition of Ansible Playbooks makes it possible to tackle this challenge in a structured, repeatable way.
The new playbooks, available from the Siemens Support Center, provide support for installing and configuring the core components of Opcenter Execution Foundation, including:
- Opcenter Execution Discrete and Process
- AGW (Automation Gateway)
- License server
- SQL Server
- Visual Studio 2022
- Environment prerequisites
In addition, Siemens provides Ansible roles and predefined scenarios for different types of deployment, including:
- All-in-One environment
- All-in-One for Development
- Environment with Separate Database
- Distributed environment
- Distributed environment with separate AGW
This classification makes it easier to choose the right scenario based on the project's specific needs.
Technical advantages
Using Ansible Playbooks introduces a number of relevant technical advantages:
✅Reduced configuration errors thanks to standardized processes.
✅Consistency between environments (development, testing and production).
✅Reduced deployment times.
✅Better support for distributed, scalable architectures.
✅Simplified repetitive tasks in complex environments.
A step forward in operational sustainability
This advance adds to other recent improvements in Opcenter EX FN focused on system sustainability and performance, such as reducing database size, optimizing indexes and the new performance monitoring feature, which allows metrics to be exported in HTML format for analysis.
The arrival of Opcenter Execution Foundation with Ansible redefines implementation standards for MES solutions.
At Maval Industria Viva, we're convinced that this advance accelerates digital transformation in the industrial sector, aligning technology, efficiency and sustainability.
